First Communion

Wow, they still do first communion? I'm Episcopalian (a preacher's kid, actually), and I had first communion. But for the most part, people don't have to do that anymore, especially kids. There's no training involved, or classes to attend...and no first communion gifts to buy. I didn't have to do any of the classes, actually...one of the perks of being a preacher's kid, I guess. But, the "traditional" part of me wonders why the teaching isn't valued anymore. If you're Catholic or Episcopalian, communion is a very important part of the religion and needs to be understood as such. So, it's nice to see that some places still do first communion. But, who am I to stand in the way of progress?
