The Things You'll Find in Second Life

While I was buying some furniture for my new house I share with my partner in Second Life, I bought what I thought was a side table. Turns out, it was a side table complete with Catholic bibles for display. Um, thanks...but no thanks! I mean, I don't mind the Bible...I have a copy of it myself in real life. But I don't have it prominently displayed in my house. It's there more for reference...or in my case, looks, as I don't refer to it very often (it's on one of my bookshelves, collecting dust). My dad's a walking Bible anyway (retired Episcopal priest, probably should have taught seminary), so I haven't really needed to. So I find it ironic that I now have a Bible display table in Second Life. Heh.

Home Decoration in Second Life

One thing that's nice about Second Life when choosing houses is knowing that you'll never have to worry about coming up with house painting ideas. It's all a matter of applying a texture to a prim, which is sooooo easy. Now, creating prims is easy too...depending on how complex one wants to get. But applying the textures is just a matter of clicking a button. It's truly amazing, and actually rather fun to do. Perhaps this will be my Second Life calling...designing stuff. What, I don't know, but I do want to do something besides dance and shop, haha. :)

Shopping for Furniture in Second Life

It's happened...I've found a Second Life partner, significant other, boyfriend...what have you. :) He's asked me to live with him in this amazing Greek-style open house on an island, and he's asked me to help find some furniture for it. Says a woman's perspective is almost always better, haha! Anyway, shopping for home furniture in Second Life is rather challenging, because you can't exactly measure it like you can in real life. What looks great in the showroom might be too big for the place you've got.

No Need for Diet Pills in Second Life

Seriously, you can look like a million bucks and not have to exercise or take supplements like Hoodia diet pills in Second Life. It's great! I thought about being a personal trainer in SL...but there's no need for one as you can be as fit, tall, blonde, brunette, red head, leggy, skinny, shapely, what have you, as you want! I myself chose a tall, fit blonde, as I've mentioned before. And it's lots of fun, I have to tell you...especially the shopping. Whereas in real life, I have to try on numerous items, usually with little success...I can buy just about anything I like and have it look fabulous on me. It's a girl's dream come true!

My Favorite Place in Second Life, So Far

Is at the beach, Laguna Beach Club (see the pic to the left). And, if I could rent a place here, like I could at this Orlando rental, I would. But so far, I can't see any rental properties around. Right now, I rent a skybox far above Vancouver Island. It's very quiet and secluded...and it is near Vancouver (well, okay...virtual Vancouver), one of my favorites spots on Earth, really.

Perhaps if I can ever figure out what I want to do on here to earn a SL living, I might be able to afford a virtual beach house. But until then, I'm content to live in my little skybox. It is nice, very private (no one flying around looking in your windows). But I'd love to be able to go out on a deck and listen to the virtual ocean. :)

Can't...Stop...Second Life

Second Life truly amazes me, and also sort of scares me a little with how addictive it is. Of course, I did just break up with A after two years...so I'm not really in the mood to do much of anything, and SL has been sort of a safe haven for me (not to mention a small booster of self-esteem). And, it's new, and when I have a new toy to play with, I sort of get obsessed with it. I feel like there's so much to learn from it (useful stuff, like digital design!), and I'm having fun at the same time.

It's so easy to spend all of my free time on there. Heck, it's taken me away from the television...and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing, since I also have Tivo (I'm leaning toward it being a bad, actually). As such, I know is that it's not helping my tendency to be more of a couch potato than I'd like. I mean, when I can look like a million bucks on SL without so much as a situp, it's easy to use it as an excuse not to exercise (a pathetic excuse, yes...but one nonetheless). And, I'm meeting so many people from around the world, and actually living the life

Luckily, spring is on the way, and I will want to get outside more and more to soak up that vitamin D. I'll have more energy than I do right now, with the longer days and shorter nights. So I'm thinking I'll spend less time on SL than I do now...I hope that's the case, or I'm doomed!

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Fonda, and I am a SecondLife Addict

And yes, that is my SL's avatar name, not my real name. Last month, I posted that I still wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Well, I take that back. I love it! Seriously, it allows my alter ego to come out of hiding. And it seems my alter ego is a bit of a shopaholic, big-time flirt, and social butterfly, all of which I am not in real life. That is quite fascinating to me, because Elizabeth is a part of me. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds for me.

The next task I've set up for myself is to find a job in SL. I'm thinking of taking some digital art classes so that I can create digital "wares" in SL and sell it (writing jobs in SL are few and far between, really...otherwise, I'd be all over that). I have some RL photos I can upload into SL, and I've figured out how to create basic prims (the building blocks for anything you see in SL). So I guess I need to spend some time working on that whole process, as it does look tedious. It's frustrating, because as with everything...I want it to happen quickly. But if there's one thing I've learned, it's that SL is anything but easy to learn.

But what I am enjoying the most is meeting people from all over the world, in different time zones, with all sorts of different experiences to share. So my experience should make for some great blog entries. Stay tuned for more!
