Kerry, Please Get Your Jokes Right from Now On

Guess Karl Rove got his "October Surprise" after all. Bet he wasn't planning on it coming from John Kerry, though. Why did Kerry have to open his mouth now...why? Apparently he totally botched a joke. He said at a speech yesterday, "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." Apparently, he was supposed to say, “Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.” *sigh* Now that would have made more sense!

So, apparently he misread his speech, or the wrong words just came out of his mouth, or Lord knows what happened. Either way, it's ignited a firestorm that could impact the elections...which are currently in line to put more Democrats in Congress. This only steals the thunder from other stories, like the troop losses in October, or the Iraqi prime minister insisting that checkpoints be removed in certain locations. Now the focus is on his flub of ginormous proportions, and now all he can do is backpedal from it. Apparently he's withdrawn from some appearances, which I think is smart. The only thing he can do now is retreat from everything and everyone, and hope that it all goes away.
